The Young and the Restless (YR) recap for Thursday, October 12 was 30 years in the making as all of Genoa City finally learns about Ashley’s true parentage, and Nick figures out a way to checkmate Victor.
I Am What I Am
Fans have known that John Abbott wasn’t Ashley’s (Eileen Davidson) biological father since 1983, when Dina (Marla Adams) returned to Genoa City and reconnected with her ex-lover, Brent Davis, who was dying and wanted to tell their daughter the truth. Ashley was so traumatized she developed amnesia and went missing.
Victor (Eric Braeden) found her, which led to their on-again/off-again, equally traumatizing relationship. Victor knew about Brent, so did Ashley’s brother, Jack (Peter Bergman) — who only pulled out that loaded gun when he was truly, truly desperate. But the rest of the town — including Ashley, herself — thought of her as John’s daughter.
Kudos to Y&R for plugging up a major plot-hole when they made Graham (Max Shippee) Ashley’s step-brother, since otherwise the ages wouldn’t have made sense. Graham has held a grudge against Dina for decades, blaming her for Brent leaving him and his mother.
And, the night of Ashley’s big awards presentation, he finally let it all out. A confused Dina confesses that Brent is Ashley’s father — as Hilary’s (Mishael Morgan) camera rolled — and Graham proposed a toast to Ashley, “the untrue Abbott.”
Money Makes the World Go Round
Meanwhile, Nick (Joshua Morrow) was probably wishing a paternity test might set him free from Victor. But, he settled for the next best thing. Going on The Hilary Hour and announcing that he is giving away the $500 million he won from Victor to charity.
This leads to Nick telling Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) that Victor stole the money from his checking account (seriously, who keeps $500 million in a CHECKING account?). Victor denied it, but the women know who they’re dealing with by now…
