Fans may be split over best and worst storylines for 2016 on The Young and the Restless. Often an outstanding performance can make a good story great, and a bad story at least watchable. So which actress did almost 4,000 of you vote as Genoa City’s Most Valuable Player of 2016? (Emmys, shmemmys, who needs them?) And the winner is….
Chelsea Morning
In 2016, Melissa Claire Egan, as Chelsea, got to play a woman in love, a woman in mourning, a devoted mother, a supportive friend… and just a little bit of the schemer we all remember from when she first came to town.
After all, burying Adam (well, what she assumed was left of him) did not prompt her to spill what she knows about Christian’s paternity… even as she and Nick (Joshua Morrow) seem to be growing closer. Heck, she might end up as the baby’s stepmother no matter what! For juggling all those aspects of Chelsea within one performance, 66% of you named her #1.
Spicy Sage
She may be dead, but 31% of fans remembered Kelly Sullivan’s portrayal of Sage fondly enough to vote her as their favorite actress of 2016. She had a big year, too, what with passing off Adam’s baby as Nick’s, losing that baby, finding him again, then dying before she could spill the truth.
There were also all those confrontations with Sharon (Sharon Case) when Fake Mama thought Real Mama was getting too attached to the wrong tot, and her scenes of ongoing grief. Sage, we hardly knew you…
Ladies’ Choice
Like in a certain recent political election, 3% of voters were unhappy enough with their two top-of-the-ballot choices, that they went with write-in candidates.
There, Sharon got most of the votes (for being crazy), followed by Mariah (who had to deal with her mom’s crazy), Hillary (who was happy to exploit the crazy), Victoria (who did her best to steer clear of the crazy) and Faith (whom the whole situation drove crazy).
