The CW is continuing its tradition of hiring former daytime TV actors to play primetime superheroes. The latest addition is from The Young and the Restless (YR).
Joining the cast of The Flash is Hartley Sawyer, who played Jack’s (Peter Bergman) son Kyle on the show from 2013-2014. He will be playing Ralph Dibny — AKA — The Elongated Man.
Hartley confirmed the casting announcement on the DC Comics blog by posting on his Facebook page:
“Well, this is going to be a hell of a lot of fun. @cwtheflash @andrewkreisberg (executive producer of The Flash) @thecw #theflash #theflashcw #dccomics.”
Good Company
In addition to Sawyer, The CW superhero lineup of shows can claim former daytimers Brandon Routh (ex-Seth, One Life to Live), who plays Ray Palmer AKA The Atom on Legends of Tomorrow and John Wesley Shipp (ex-Douglas, As the World Turns; ex-Kelly, Guiding Light; ex-Eddie, OLTL), who recurs as Jay Garrick AKA The Flash.
Sweet Sue
No word yet on if The Flash will also cast an actress to play Sue Dearborn, who became Ralph’s wife in the comics. It might be best if they don’t! A pregnant Sue met a fatal fate at the hands of Jean Loring (the Atom’s ex-wife) in the limited series Identity Crisis, which was published by DC Comics in 2004.
The Flash returns for its fourth season on The CW on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m.
