Beware a mother-in-law scorned on The Young and the Restless!

Gloria did not take kindly to Lauren refusing Gloria’s magnanimous offer to let Lauren pay Gloria a salary to perform an unneeded job — in between hair appointments and gossiping.

A spurned Gloria went snooping and discovered that Lauren’s company, Fenmores (also the name of Gloria’s grandson, but this is no time to get sentimental), was in financial trouble.

Naturally, Gloria did what any concerned family member would do. First, she tried to blackmail Lauren (Tracey Bregman) by threatening to spill all to Lauren’s husband, Michael — then she went to ex-stepson Jack and volunteered to help him with a hostile takeover. Gloria’s (Judith Chapman) best-laid plans have a nasty habit of blowing up in her face. (Or, in the case of the woman she poisoned with tainted lotion, in someone else’s face.) Probably why 80% of fans believe this will be yet another case of more of the same.

Gloria can’t get marriage or child-rearing right, why should corporate espionage be any different? Or maybe you just believe that, in Genoa City, crime shouldn’t pay… for anyone but Victor (Eric Braeden), that is.

Even a Broken Clock Is Right Twice a Day
On the other hand, 20% of viewers thinks Gloria — and Jack (Peter Bergman) — are due for a win, whether that’s merely the law of averages, or because, eventually, everybody gets sick and tired and can’t take it anymore.

Lauren is driving Fenmores into the ground, while Jack is a successful businessman who could make it thrive — especially now that he’s got Gloria feeding him inside information. As for Gloria, she tried to play nice with Lauren, but her daughter-in-law wasn’t biting. So what else is left?
