Adam, Come Home? The Young and the Restless (YR) Fans Predict His Future

He may have gone to that great soap in the sky (or did he?) but the character of Adam Newman is still talked about a ton on The Young and the Restless (YR).

And since there was never a body found, fans can’t help but wonder if somewhere Adam is alive and well. The character certainly is integral to the Y&R landscape.

He’s Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) son and has romantic history with two of the show’s most popular leading ladies — Sharon (Sharon Case) and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan).

It’s not likely that his most recent portrayer, Justin Hartley, will ever reprise the part, certainly not in the near future given the runaway success of Hartley’s primetime serial This is Us.

But that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of Adam. Soap Hub asked Y&R fans how they felt about the black sheep of the Newman clan and nearly 5,000 viewers responded.

It’s Love
For 80% of those who responded, they can’t get enough of Adam and can’t believe it’s over! His story intertwined with everyone, making him one of the most exciting people in Genoa City.

Time to Move On
Only 17% of fans said that they could actually live without seeing him again, which is surprising given what a catalyst Adam has been in so many storylines.

Feeling Contrary
Only 3% of fans voted “other,” writing in responses that ranged from wanting to see Hartley return to the part to saying that Adam can be left dead.

There’s been buzz that Y&R is recasting the character, but Soap Hub hasn’t seen a specific casting breakdown looking for a fourth adult Adam. Then again, shows don’t always include a specific character name in the casting breakdown when they are on the hunt to fill a particular part.

Also, if the show ends up hiring an actor who’s previously been on a soap, a casting breakdown may not be necessary as the show can contact representatives of known actors directly.

It will be interesting to see if Adam is brought back if the writers will explain away a new look for the character by saying he’s had plastic surgery. That avenue’s already been taken once — when Hartley assumed the role.

It might be best not to repeat that and have people who already know Adam recognize him right away.
