The Young and the Restless (YR), like every soap, goes through changes, but one thing that hasn’t changed about the show since December 1988 is its position as the top-rated daytime drama!
The CBS sudser recently marked 1,500 consecutive weeks (nearly 29 years) as daytime’s #1 drama, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending September 29.
What Was Great In ’88
Which stories helped propel Y&R to the #1 spot back in 1988? Brad Carlton (Don Diamont, now Bill on The Bold and the Beautiful) was being kept in a cage by his one-time deranged wife Lisa Mansfield.
Paul was seeing a mysterious woman named Cassandra (AKA”Sandy”), the wife of his new friend George Rawlins. And Victor and Nikki were headed for a divorce!
Check out the image that some Y&R stars, including two-time Emmy-winner Kristoff St. John (Neil), have released on social media honoring the show’s milestone of being #1 for almost three decades!
Y&R airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for air times.
