Veteran fans of The Young and the Restless recall Andy Richards, who was Paul Williams’ private eye pal, from two different eras on the show. Recently, their respective portrayers, Steven Ford and Doug Davidson shared a reunion.

Doug Davidson and Steven Ford Catch Up

“Happy birthday AND Happy anniversary! Caught up with Steve a week or so ago!” Davidson noted on Instagram about reuniting with Ford, whose birthday is May 19th. “Hadn’t seen him in ages, but it’s like we never stopped working together! Great times! #steveford #happybirthday #happanniversary #oldfriends.”

The two actors and former co-stars don’t see each other on any kind of schedule, but Davidson tells Soap Hub, “We’ve stayed in touch over the years, but with huge gaps occurring in between getting together. I lose time because of the pandemic. [My wife, Cindy and I] went to his wedding a few years ago. We talk and text, but hadn’t seen each other for a few years.”

Davidson describes the friendship with Ford as the kind that picks up as if no time had passed. “Anytime we reconnect, it’s like we were never apart,” the actor says. He credits that feeling to the number of years they spent working together and the close conditions that they worked under.

“It just doesn’t go away,” Davidson fondly offers. “[Steven] was one of the best men in my wedding. We worked every day together for years. We shared dressing rooms, went on vacations, and we went to his parents’ [President Gerald Ford and First Lady Betty Ford] home in Palm Springs. We were pretty tight. Whenever life doesn’t get in the way and we have time to get back together, it’s amazing how we just click again so easily,” Davidson adds. “Each time, we say to each other, ‘We have to do this more often!'”

As Andy, Ford had two stints on YR. He first appeared on the show from 1981 to 1988. Andy left town with his wife Farren Connor (aka Michelle Sanderson — played by Colleen Casey), a former amnesiac. When Andy returned in 2002, he explained that he and Farren had split. The actor left Genoa City for the second time the following May. Check out Davidson’s post below to see their recent reunion! The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
