Young and the Restless Missed The Mark With Theo And Brooks Family

When The Young and the Restless connected Theo Vanderway to the storied Brooks family in Genoa City, we nearly squealed with happiness! Not only did they create a compelling younger character, but also they connected him to an original core family.

Young and the Restless Messed Up Theo’s Brooks Connection

Long-time fans of the CBS daytime drama know that it began with the core families of the Brooks and the Fosters. Over time, those families faded away as the storylines started to center around the Newmans and the Abbotts, with some Chancellors thrown in for good measure.

Theo (Tyler Johnson) arrived in town, and the soap ended up connecting him to the show’s history in a huge way. Eric Vanderway (Jon Briddell), who was the son of Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) and Stuart Brooks (Robert Colbert), turned out to be Theo’s dad.

The writers created this ancient history in 2019. However, connecting Theo to the wealthy newspaper publishing family brings pieces of the original storylines back to the canvas. Moreover, given Theo’s job in modern-day connection to the media world with social media influencers, he would’ve fit right in with their history. Who knows — Theo might give ChanceComm a run for its money.

Missed Opportunity At Victoria’s Wedding

With Leslie Brooks (Janice Lynde) recently returning for Victoria Newman’s (Amelia Heinle) wedding, The Young and the Restless missed another opportunity. For instance, if Theo showed up for the wedding with Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) or Leslie, it would’ve cemented their connection. Plus, the awkwardness between Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope), Summer Newman Abbott (Hunter King), and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) was priceless and would have increased tenfold with Theo in tow.

We hope Y&R brings back both Leslie and Theo to get the Brooks family integrated back into Genoa City and current storylines. These characters create a great connection for long-time fans and help newer viewers see some of the show’s rich history.
