Shemar Moore may not be returning to The Young and the Restless during his hiatus from his nighttime police drama S.W.A.T., however, he is taking on a new role that will unite him with a daytime favorite.
Shemar Moore In New Film
“Aaayyyeee!!! Homies, Fans, n Baby Girls!!!!” Moore enthused in an Instagram post. “Your boy is excited to be a part of the #SonicMovie2 cast.” The feature film, titled Sonic the Hedgehog 2, a sequel to the 2020 movie Sonic the Hedgehog, stars Jim Carrey (Dumb and Dumber), Ben Schwartz (DuckTales), James Marsden (X-Men), Mixed-ish star Tika Sumpter (ex-Layla, One Life to Live), and Natasha Rothwell (Insecure).
The film tells the tale of Sonic (voiced by Schwartz) seeking out more freedom after Tom (Marsden) and Maddie (Tika Sumpter) go on vacation. Then, Dr. Robotnik (Carrey) and Knuckles search for a precious emerald that has the power to create and destroy civilizations. Sonic and his sidekick Tails team up to try to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.
Sumpter tweeted the news of Moore joining the movie’s cast. “Dropped in a portal and found the Sonic crew and the newest cast member,” the actress wrote. “Welcome @shemarfmoore! @natasharothwell @james_marsden @sonicthehedgehog.”
Moore made his TV debut on YR as Malcolm Winters, the half-brother of the late Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) in 1994. The estranged brothers reunited, but their lives were never the same after Malcolm mistakenly believed that his sister-in-law Drucilla (Victoria Rowell), zonked out on cold medicine, and wanted Malcolm to make love to her. (She thought he was Neil!)
Dru gave birth to daughter Lily (Christel Khalil) and the secret as to whether Neil or Malcolm was her father remained dormant. Then, it came out that Malcolm was the father. Moore left YR in 2002 to try his hand in primetime and film. He landed a series regular role on The WB’s Birds of Prey, which lasted one season.
Next, he landed his role as Derek Morgan on the long-running CBS procedural Criminal Minds. During his stint as Morgan, Moore popped over to YR in 2014 and, again in 2019 to eulogize Neil after YR wrote into the show St. John’s passing. In 2017, Moore landed the lead role as Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson on S.W.A.T., which was recently renewed for a fifth season. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS.
