This past year, The Young and the Restless fans saw a bevy of cast exits. Both veterans and relative newcomers departed Genoa City either voluntarily or due to a variety of reasons from budget to storyline.
While some performers opted to depart of their own volition, one player, Doug Davidson, tweeted that his contract was not picked up and that he’d been appearing on the show on a recurring basis.
And despite an ongoing crime mystery — the disappearance of J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) — a natural situation for Paul to be involved in, he has been absent from the story canvas.
Instead of having his absence be explained by saying Paul had to go out of town to handle a special case for the governor or that he needed to go help one of his kids, Paul simply isn’t around.
Does Young’s exit mean viewers might be seeing Paul return to watch over the investigation Rey (Jordi Vilasuso) is conducting?
The new decision-makers at Y&R could potentially reach out to not only Davidson but others who exited Y&R in 2018 to gauge their interest in returning. Next year, we could see not only Paul back onscreen but also Ashley (Eileen Davidson), Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan), and others!
Davidson tweeted that whether or not he comes back to the screen, the support his fans have given him during this time has meant the world to him.
As soaps can be about six weeks ahead of what’s being shown on air and even longer with what’s been written, it might be a while before we see the new regime’s vision on the show.
Stay tuned to see what happens!

I don’t know what the future holds. But, I cannot thank you all enough for carrying me through a very difficult time. You buoyed my spirits and kept me looking forward. Regardless of any outcome, I will be forever grateful. God bless you all.
