The new “The Young and the Restless” executive producer has a request for fans of the show: He wants to hear your opinions.
Speak Up!
“I love a loyal audience who are fantastically vocal…If they weren’t vocal, I would worry, because their opinion counts,” Young told Soap Opera Digest in its July 18 issue.
Young took over executive producer duties after Jill Farren Phelps was fired last month. Young plans to honor the legacy of Y&R, but to add some of the twists soap fans love. The core clans and the diversity in Genoa City are essential components of Y&R.
Young also plans to go against some fan expectations, rather than rest on the laurels of the show.
“You’ve got to give them what surprises them and thrills them,” he said.
More In Common Than Not
Young began his career in television 35 years ago in England, working on several dramatic serials. He’s loved television since childhood, calling himself a “TV obsessive.”

“I think a good soap, indeed any scripted show, connects with the audience on an emotional level,” Young said.
