Why The Young and the Restless Chancellor Mansion Needs Esther Back

Esther Valentine on The Young and the Restless

Soap fans love stability and most fans of The Young and the Restless would agree that the Chancellor mansion just isn’t the same without Esther Valentine being there. While the late Katherine Chancellor’s home has many familiar faces living in it, the residence would feel even more familiar if Esther was also present.

The Young and the Restless Needs Esther Back

Let’s not forget that Katherine left half the house to Esther (Kate Linder). So, she has a legal right to live at the estate. Jill Abbott owns the other half and she’s letting newlyweds Abby Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) and absent Chance Chancellor live there but Esther is a legal owner.

While it makes sense on one hand that Esther left the residence to go and support her daughter Chloe Mitchell Fisher (Elizabeth Hendrickson) and Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart) and their kids Bella (Martie Blair) and Miles, let’s not forget the mansion is huge! There is room for everyone!

Kate Linder: Esther Is Maid To Order on The Young and the Restless

While it might be odd, given Esther’s financial means, for her to return to her role as the estate’s maid, it’s one she might feel comfortable playing. Esther considered Katherine as part of her family and keeping the estate in order wouldn’t be just a job to her but rather a way to honor her late pal and supporter.

Y&R is known for its long-running characters and those familiar faces are a key factor in the ongoing success of the show. The mansion underwent a makeover years ago when Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) moved in and the estate’s interior walls were painted a blue/gray color. That was rectified and the place took on a more familiar look. But Esther answering the front door in her maid’s outfit is a Y&R staple.

Kate Linder’s Upcoming Anniversary

Next year, Linder will celebrate 40 years of playing Esther on Y&R. What better way to honor both the actress and her on-screen alter-ego than to put her back in the home where she spent so many years?

The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Genoa City, check out all the latest that’s been posted on Y&R spoilers.
