Remember when Elena first showed up on The Young and the Restless? She had dropped out of medical school due to financial concerns, become a nurse, and was taking care of her ailing uncle, the biological father of Devon’s half-sister, Ana.
The Young and the Restless Commentary
Elena (Brytni Sarpy) had it together. She was smart and competent, kind but not a pushover. We didn’t blame Devon (Bryton James) for falling in love with her. We fell in love with her ourselves! And then came…
Personality Transplant
Sure, Devon and Elena had some rough patches. She wasn’t thrilled that he decided to pay off her student loans – without asking her first. But they got past that.
She wasn’t thrilled about all the time he was spending with Amanda (Mishael Morgan), filling her in on long-lost twin, Hilary. But we thought they’d eventually get past that, too.
Except then Elena decided to have sex with Nate (Sean Dominic). Not that there’s no reason to have sex with Nate. Nate is awesome. But Elena was living with Devon and had previously shown him complete devotion!
Next Verse, Same as the First
Elena and Devon broke up, and she started dating Nate. At which point Elena slept with Devon. OK. What is wrong with this girl? When did the confident and sensible doctor we fell in love with turn into – there’s no nice way to put this – a hot mess? And, more importantly, why?
Here’s the problem: We know very little about Elena. She kind of sprung fully-formed, like from the head of Zeus, to be Devon’s new love interest. We don’t know if this kind of behavior is typical for her, or an aberration.
We don’t know if the together woman is just a facade she periodically puts on, but can’t maintain for long. (Maybe there was another reason she initially dropped out of medical school besides money. Maybe she cheated on it with a law school!)
The point is, we just don’t understand Elena’s actions at the moment. And we’d really like to! The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
