Cane Ashby was a fixture on The Young and the Restless landscape for a decade. The fan-favorite, played by Daniel Goddard, exited the canvas in the fall of 2019 when Cane went off to track down his con artist dad Colin, who had made off with Devon’s fortune.
Last we checked, Devon (Bryton James) has gotten his money back – so, what’s to keep Cane from returning to Genoa City? Not much as far as we can tell. Also, the reintroduction of the character would come at a perfect time now that his ex-wife Lily (Christel Khalil) has moved onto a new relationship with former fling Billy (Jason Thompson) — a sometime rival of Cane’s.
It was pretty clear to everyone that Victoria (Amelia Heinle) was using her children, Johnny (Holden and Ryan Hare) and Katie (Sienna Mercuri), to pop into Billy’s life while his romance with Lily was getting off the ground. Does she still have feelings for her ex? If so, Victoria is the perfect person to lure Cane back to town. She’d want it kept secret that she’s behind it as her motives would be fairly clear.
Cane’s return might force Lily to question whether or not she’s truly no longer in love with her Aussie ex. Another reason to bring Cane back would be to re-introduce his son Sam with the late Juliet (Laur Allen) to the canvas. He wasn’t born all that long ago, but he could be aged to a teen and interact with Moses (Jacob Aaron Gaines) and Faith (Reylynn Caster).
Corporate battles have long been a staple on YR. Now that Ashland Locke (Richard Burgi) is on the scene, there’s more potential for boardroom battles. As Cane has worked for nearly every major company in town, he could play a role in any corporate takeover schemes.
Victoria’s scheme to bring Cane back to town could have a surprise effect if she were to fall for the handsome Aussie herself! In addition to Victoria, there are other eligible leading ladies in town with whom Cane could be paired. There’s Sally (Courtney Hope) and Tara (Elizabeth Leiner), too!
Ultimately, Cane’s return stands to affect Billy and Lily the most. The couple’s been getting along so well lately that he’s the perfect foil to add to their storyline. Will it happen?
