They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but we wonder what good is a picture when you can’t recognize the subject? Above is a snapshot of a future star of soaps, but can you guess who this refined beauty grew up to be?
Star Of The Soaps
Obviously, this stunning woman is either currently starring in, or is an alum of, one of the four remaining daytime dramas – The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless – but that’s probably not enough of a hint.
So try these on for size. This actress’s career began in the 1950s, and she made her feature film debut in a 1953 western starring Maureen O’Hara. She appeared in five episodes of the CBS procedural Perry Mason. She is both a Daytime Emmy Award winner and a recipient of the Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award. And for her contributions to television, she has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
But just who can she be? Is this a photograph of Susan Flannery (ex-Stephanie Forrester, B&B), Frances Reid (ex-Alice Horton, DAYS), Constance Towers (ex-Helena Cassadine, GH), or Jeanne Cooper (ex-Katherine Chancellor, Y&R)?
Susan Flannery
Flannery is a four-time recipient of the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series (three wins were for her work on B&B and the fourth for her role as Dr. Laura Spencer Horton on DAYS). And though her first silver screen effort was indeed a western, Guns of Diablo, it was released in 1964 (not ’53) and it starred Susan Oliver (who would go on to be the third actress to play Laura on DAYS), not O’Hara.
Frances Reid
Though she received a Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004, Reid only appeared in two episodes of Perry Mason and none of her early film efforts (which were all uncredited) featured O’Hara. So she isn’t today’s featured star.
Constance Towers
And neither is Towers. This in spite of the fact that she appeared in five episodes of Perry Mason (all between 1961 and 1965). In her first two appearances, she portrayed the murderess.
Jeanne Cooper
Cooper’s television career was launched with an episode of Chevron Theatre and her film debut was the western The Redhead from Wyoming. Among the actress’s (many) acting credits are five episodes of Perry Mason.
For her work on Y&R, Cooper received 10 Daytime Emmy Award nominations and she won the 2008 statuette in the Lead Actress category. Her Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed by the committee in 2004. Cooper’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is located at 6801 Hollywood Boulevard.
So, if you guessed that the future star of soaps seen in the image above was Jeanne Cooper, then you were absolutely correct!
