Every actor has to start somewhere… your favorite soap stars included. And one of the easiest places to start is in the wonderful land of advertisements – goodness knows that every TV channel is chock full of them!
All of these actresses are either an alum of a long-ago classic – like One Life to Live and Passions – or they currently star in or are alums of one of the four remaining daytime dramas – The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless. But only one of them can claim that she began her acting career after nailing an audition for an Oscar Mayer wiener ad.
But who can that actress be? Is she Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy Forrester, BB), Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Webber, GH), Jessica Morris (ex-Jennifer Rappaport, OLTL), Lindsay Hartley (ex-Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald, PASSIONS), Lauren Woodland (ex-Brittany Hodges Guittierez, YR)?
Though she’s now known as a Daytime Emmy Award-winning actress, there was a time when Wood was known simply as “Hair Girl” – the consequence of starring in commercials for the Canada-based First Choice Haircutters salons.
Prior to joining the cast of GH, Herbst already had one previous series under her belt – Nickelodeon’s Space Cases – in addition to the 60 plus commercials she had appeared in throughout her adolescence. But her first was not for a popular brand of hotdog. Instead, she had sung the praises of Banner toilet tissue.
Morris was 16 years old, a nascent model, and a visitor to Tokyo, Japan when she made her acting debut in an advert for cheese crackers.
Hartley spent her teenage years participating in beauty pageants, honing her vocal talents, and participating in theatrical productions. She also acquainted herself with on-camera acting thanks to her appearances in commercials for her parent’s furniture store.
Before deciding to forgo a career as an actress and enter the legal profession, Woodland had amassed an impressive resume, which included more than 20 guest appearances on TV programs, four series regular roles, and credits for over 50 commercials. And Woodland owes it all to an ad for Oscar Mayer Weiner’s delicious hotdogs – a role she snagged at the tender age of 6.
So, if you guessed that the soap star in question was Lauren Woodland, then you were absolutely correct!
