What Nick Needs To Tell Phyllis About Summer on The Young and the Restless

Nick, Phyllis, and Summer on The Young and the Restless
 Comments

Summer Newman has left The Young and the Restless on multiple occasions. Each previous time, her mother Phyllis Summers barely blinked an eye before moving on with her life.

The Young and the Restless’s Phyllis Loses Her Cool

Not this time. This time, when Summer (Hunter King) took off for her dream job in Milan, Italy, dumping her fiancé, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor), for the umpteenth time, Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) decided it was an unprecedented tragedy.

Many Faces on The Young and the Restless

Phyllis sobbed, Phyllis shrieked, Phyllis raged, and Phyllis destroyed a series of lives in order to prove that Summer was driven out of town by the machinations of Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) and Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner).

Tara is in prison. Sally has been fired. But when Phyllis saw the latter having a drink and smiling with her new boss, Chloe Mitchell Fisher (Elizabeth Hendrickson), Phyllis couldn’t stop ranting about the unfairness of life. There was Sally, smiling, while Phyllis’s daughter was suffering through the unbearable hell of living in a gorgeous city, doing what she always wanted to do, and reuniting with the fiancé she has yet to run away from again. How is a mother supposed to process such grief?

Words Of Advice

Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) has been trying to support Phyllis through her crises. The Young and the Restless has shown empathy is clearly not getting the job done. Instead of getting better, Phyllis is getting worse. She is acting not like her daughter has moved out of town, but like she’s died.

You know whose daughter died on The Young and the Restless? Nick’s. Cassie (Camryn Grimes) isn’t in Europe, living her best life. Cassie is dead. There is no chance of her coming back. Not for Christmas. Not for a long vacation. Not maybe back to Genoa City down the line. Cassie is dead. Nick needs to remind her of that. Maybe that will help put matters into perspective. And get her to stop beating her breast and crying, “Oh, woe is me, no parent has ever experienced such pain!”

The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Genoa City, check out all the latest that’s been posted on Y&R spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
