The Young and the Restless may still be the soap opera with the most total viewers, but not a single one of those viewers would deny that the show has been in a lull of late.

The Young and the Restless Polling

It’s definitely missing… something. But what? Almost 4,000 viewers offered their suggestions:

Shock and Awe

YR has plenty of couples, but none of them are exactly shocking, 38% of you point out. Billy (Jason Thompson) and Lily (Christel Khalil)? Interracial couples are hardly shocking anymore, especially for Lily. Mariah (Camryn Grimes) and Tessa (Cait Fairbanks)? Neither are same-sex couples. So what could possibly still have the power to shock?

We’ve heard rumbles of a Jack (Peter Bergman) and Sally (Courtney Hope) pairing. There is a huge age difference. But Jack is known for his tendency to marry much younger women. And it’s not like his dad was fishing in his own age pool with Jill (Jess Walton). And Victor (Eric Braeden) already married Victoria’s (Amelia Heinle) school friend. What would it take to truly shock Genoa City?

Gather Round

There was a one-point difference between the above and the cries for a huge umbrella story that would involve everyone. Fans are tired of seeing some characters every day and others barely once a week. Why not share the love – and the story!

Bad to the Bone

Adam (Mark Grossman) is certainly the center of attention, but he isn’t so much the Big Bad as he is the Big Whines. A smaller 15% of the audience wants to see a real supervillain, someone who cannot only make everyone’s lives miserable but can make us think Victor might even be at risk of losing. That sure would make you tune in!

Cut the Deadwood

Finally, 10% are rooting for a serial killer. He (or she) could cut a wide swath through the cast and get rid of the ones who are dragging the story down. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
