It was a banner day earlier this year for an iconic The Young and the Restless (YR) star.
Eric Braeden, who plays Victor Newman on the soap has added another honor to his mantle: He’s been inducted into the German-American Hall of Fame (GAMHOF) along with four other notable honorees.
Other inductees include the late Henry Steinway (born Heinrich Steinweg), the famous piano builder; noted sex expert/TV personality Dr. Ruth Westheimer; late baseball great Lou Gehirg, who brought awareness to ALS; and beloved film/TV icon and pet advocate Doris Day.
The ceremony took place on June 15 at Trump Tower’s Atrium in New York City. In addition to Braeden, Westheimer also attended the ceremony.
German Origins
Braeden was born Hans Gudegast in Kiel, Germany in 1941. Making his way to the United States in 1959, he landed in New York, but after working in Texas, the young immigrant earned an athletic scholarship to the University of Montana.
Taking the stage name “Eric Braeden,” he was tapped as a guest star in over 100 films, and began working as on such series as Combat!, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and The Rat Patrol, among others.
Aside from a notable role in the Oscar-winning blockbuster Titanic, Braeden has starred as Y&R’s Victor since 1980, earning the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1998.
What is GAMHOF?
The German American Hall of Fame’s (GAMHOF) motto is “Educate and Celebrate.” GAMHOF recognizes and honors outstanding German-Americans, creates awareness and appreciation for the huge impact German-Americans continue to make on the evolution of the United States.
It also aims to present a positive, progressive, and accurate image of Americans of German ancestry.
