More than a decade ago on The Young and the Restless (YR), a teenaged Devon lost his hearing after a near-deadly bout with meningitis.
After he lost his hearing, Devon’s (Bryton James) family rallied together and learned how to communicate using sign language, and while that was effective, eventually Devon received a Cochlear Implant.
Obviously, the surgery carried risk and the possibility that he might not regain some hearing despite having it. It’s not surprising and Dru (Victoria Rowell) and Neil (Kristoff St. John) worried while they waited to hear news of Devon.
The implant ultimately gave Devon back partial hearing. Fans may remember that in 2012, Devon had a transducer implanted in each middle ear, which helped him regain his total hearing.
Do you remember this tense time for the family?
