The court case between former “Young and the Restless” star Victoria Rowell and Sony Pictures, CBS Corp, and Corday Entertainment will move forward.
Back in November of 2015, Rowell’s case was dismissed by US District Judge John Kronstadt. The judge decided against pursuing the case, saying Rowell’s team failed to supply sufficient evidence. He did, however, leave the door open for Rowell to refile.
On May 24th, Rowell took her retaliation suit back to the courtroom, and this time, the judge was on her side. The opposition’s motion to dismiss was denied and her case will soon be heard in open court.
This win is big for Rowell and her #Dru4Diversity campaign. She’s fought for years to reprise her still-famous role of Drucilla Winters, and after being denied one too many times, Rowell decided to file suit against the show and take her case one step further, claiming that she experienced racism on the set of Y&R.
Sony and CBS have maintained since the beginning that Rowell’s claims are untrue, and until this development, they were confident the case wouldn’t go any further. Now, it’s the entertainment titans against Rowell in a David and Goliath-style war. Rowell isn’t backing down, and now that the case is going forward, she’s finally picking up steam with Rowell not backing down.
Rowell played Drucilla from 1990-2007. Even after nearly 10 years, it’s never been clear if Dru died or if she simply got lost in the waters. Most fans say they would welcome her back to the show with open arms.
