Veteran soap star Scott Reeves, known as Ryan on The Young and the Restless, Steven Lars on General Hospital, and Jake Hogansen on Days of our Lives, revealed some very sad family news.
Reeves shared with his followers on social media that his beloved father, Joe Reeves, passed away on Thursday, January 28. He wrote a touching tribute which he included next to a series of pictures from his father’s life.
“It was my first time experiencing saying goodbye, well, goodbye for now, to someone in my immediate family,” Reeves posted on Instagram. “I can now appreciate the pain that friends of mine have already experienced and my prayers are with you.
“Dad was a fighter in every sense of the word,” Reeves wrote. “From meager beginnings in Delight AR, where he fought his way to Golden Glove status in Little Rock, to the bright lights of Hollywood CA, where he forged his own way to become one of the most well respected and well liked police officers Beverly Hills had to offer.
“Dad, you introduced me to Jesus and I can’t thank you enough for that. You knew no strangers and ALWAYS saw the best in people,” the actor acknowledges. “You were the underdog’s hero with a heart bigger than California. You loved my wife [Melissa Reeves, Jennifer, Days of our Lives] like a daughter and my kids [Emily and Larry] like they were your own. I’m so grateful to the Lord that you got to meet your two great grandsons [Woods and Lawrence].”
Devotees of Reeves who attended and/or worked at fan gatherings in the 1990s during his run as Ryan on YR recall having met the actor’s father, who provided security at the events. “[H]e was so very kind and friendly,” shares Kathie Gunn, a YR viewer. “I hope every memory brings you comfort. You and your family are in my prayers.”
Reeves’ daytime pals also weighed in with words of comfort and support. “Beautiful tribute to your wonderful dad!” Don Diamont (Bill, The Bold and the Beautiful) posted. “So sorry for your loss Scott! You were blessed to have an obviously loving father for as long as you did. What a shining example of fatherhood! Sending you every good wish during this challenging time. Joe raised a great son! RIP🙏🏻❤️.”
“Your legacy lives on,” Reeves concluded in his tribute to his dad. “You have always been my biggest fan and pushed me to be the best that I could be. I love you with all my heart and will miss you everyday, but look so forward to seeing you again in Glory some day. My eyes are on the Prize. ‘So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.’ John 16:22.”
