Abby and Chance’s relationship is getting a new dynamic on The Young and the Restless. Tricia Cast is reprising her role as Nina Webster, Chance’s mom.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the Daytime Emmy winner was returning to Genoa City to reconnect with Chance (Donny Boaz) and see her pal Christine (Lauralee Bell). She’ll first pop up in early November and then be back for the show’s 12,000th (!) episode later in the month.
Cast debuted in 1986 as troubled teen Nina Webster. Cricket (now Christine) befriended her and tried to help Nina get back her firstborn child whom she’d sold to baby broker Rose DeVille (the late, great Darlene Conley). Tricia lost her son, but her story wasn’t over. She and Phillip Chancellor III (Thom Bierdz) had sex and she became pregnant again, this time with Chance.
Phillip and Cricket called off their engagement. They each grew up without fathers so they knew they couldn’t let that happen to Nina’s baby either. Alas, Phillip, shortly after marrying Nina, died in a car crash after driving drunk. Years later, it was revealed that Phillip had faked his death in order to move to Australia and live his life as a gay man, not wanting to deal with societal and familial pressures. His return to the canvas years later shocked his loved ones — and viewers who saw him expire on camera!
After Phillip “died,” Nina was taken in by con artist David Kimball (Michael Corbett), who planned to marry Nina, kill her and her son so that he could inherit the millions she inherited from Phillip. Nina grew wise to David’s scheme and shot him several times. She was convicted at trial, but her savvy attorney, John Silva (John Castellanos), polled the jury. One juror changed her vote. There was another round of deliberations and Nina was set free!
She moved on next to a relationship with Ryan McNeil (Scott Reeves). It ended in divorce and then, tragically, Ryan was killed. Eventually, Nina moved to California to continue her writing career. She returned in 2008 and was later reunited with her firstborn, Ronan Malloy (Jeff Branson), a lawman, and also, Phillip, who revealed to his family that he wasn’t dead after all.
Nina last appeared on the show in 2014; her relationship with Paul was over, but she was happy that he and her pal Christine reunited. In addition to her 1992 Daytime Emmy win for Outstanding Younger Leading Actress in Drama Series, Cast was nominated again in 2011 in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
