Reed Helstrom sure loved his music on The Young and the Restless and his portrayer, Tristan Lake Leabu follows suit. Unfortunately, with social distancing taking over because of the coronavirus pandemic, a gig the actor/musician had scheduled at the Hotel Cafe had to be postponed. But he isn’t letting that stop him from still making music.
The actor/musician took to social media to let his fans know that his upcoming appearance, like pretty much everything these days, has been rescheduled. After all, you can’t have a lot of people in one place when there is a statewide shelter-in-place order in California.
“As I’m sure most of you imagined, the Hotel Cafe show has been postponed until June, God willing we’re able to all see each other by then. Until then, here’s one of my favorite songs that’s always touched me. I’ve heard it ten thousand times and I know I could hear it ten thousand more without the magic wearing off. Hope this helps ease the isolation…”
And with that, he included a video of himself playing 4+20 by Stephen Stills. It’s a stunning and heartfelt rendition of the classic song that tells the sad story of a man, born into a poor family, who ends up alone in his old age, wishing for death to come. Leabu’s version is haunting and beautifully done.
As for his Genoa City character, Reed recently visited his mother Victoria (Amelia Heinle), who has been going through a lot since she was stabbed. Unfortunately, it was very quick and the character left without catching up with anyone else in town.
It would have been nice if he could have stuck around longer — even better if his former guitar tutor Tessa (Cait Fairbanks), who has been enjoying tremendous success on the road, could have brought her former student on stage during her set. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
