The Young and the Restless has more than a recently announced four-year renewal to celebrate. On Saturday, the writing team attended the Writers Guild of America Awards ceremony along with fellow nominated writers from Days of our Lives and General Hospital.

The Young and the Restless Wins

Ceremonies were held concurrently on both coasts at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles and the Edison Ballroom in New York City. The winner in the Daytime Drama category was YR! The YR scribes that were on the ballot include Amanda L. Beall, Jeff Beldner, Sara Bibel, Matt Clifford, Annie Compton, Christopher Dunn, Sara Endsley, Janice Ferri Esser, Mellinda Hensley, Lynn Martin, Anne Schoettle, Natalie Minardi Slater, and Teresa Zimmerman.

Nominee Ron Carlivati, head writer of DAYS, tweeted out congrats to the YR scribes. “Congrats to our friends and colleagues at @YandR_CBS on their Writers Guild award! #yr #days #gh #bandb” Carlivati posted on social media.

YR scribes Bibel and Hensley each posted photos on Twitter of their awards. Colleagues chimed in with their well-wishes. “Congrats1 And very nice speech,” posted DAYS writer Ryan Quan. Other congratulations came from Sharon Case (Sharon), Jamey Giddens (Ambitions), and Patrick Mulcahey (formerly of The Bold and the Beautiful’s writing team).

Stories This Past Year

Last year on YR, the show wrapped up the JT (Thad Luckinbill) abuse storyline in which JT was revealed to be alive, which got Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), Amelia Heinle (Victoria), and Sharon (Sharon Case) off the hook for their role in his “death.” YR put on the wedding of the year with Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Lola (Sasha Calle). A slew of familiar faces and characters returned to the canvas including Michelle Stafford (Phyllis), Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea), Greg Rikaart (Kevin), and Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe).

The show returned Adam (Mark Grossman) to the canvas. And YR’s most touching episodes were the farewell to Neil (the late Kristoff St. John), which brought Shemar Moore (Malcolm), Julia Pace Mitchell (Sofia), and Angell Conwell (Leslie) back to the show to pay their respects. Soap Hub joins the daytime community in congratulating YR on its WGA Award win! The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
