Has social distancing and self-quarantining led to more soap watching? The recent Nielsen ratings have shown that numbers among daytime programs are up, including soap operas, with The Young and the Restless once again taking the soap lead.
Ratings Race
For the rating period ending March 29, YR took to the top spot among soap operas in the categories of Households, Women 18-49 (W18-49), and Women 25-54.
In W18-49, YR took first place with a .58, The Bold and the Beautiful came in second with .57, General Hospital was in third place with .55, and Days of our Lives was in fourth. There was good news for the gang in Salem. DAYS earned a .50 rating in W18-49, the show’s best numbers in that category since the week ending February 1, 2019. Also, The Bold and the Beautiful took the top spot in Women 12-17.
Soap Opera Happenings
What was going on last week that got viewers tuning in? On The Young and the Restless, Adam (Mark Grossman) and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) theorized as to what role Victor (Eric Braeden) may have played in a death that took place in Kansas years ago. Dina (Marla Adams) reunited with her family. Mariah (Camryn Grimes) and Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) also reunited.
On BB, Sally implored her pal, Dr. Penny Escobar (Monica Ruiz), to keep her fake death secret from Wyatt (Darin Brooks) and everybody else! On GH, Nina (Cynthia Watros) hired Nelle (Chloe Lanier) and Carly (Laura Wright) locked Nelle on the roof so she wouldn’t interfere with Wiley’s (Erik and Theodore Olson) surgery. Also, Jordan (Briana Nicole Henry) was interviewed by Internal Affairs.
And On Days of our Lives
On DAYS, Xander (Paul Telfer) made sure Nicole (Arianne Zucker) did not get to the bottom of Mackenzie’s true parentage, but she was still suspicious. SteVano (Stephen Nichols) wed Marlena (Deidre) and John (Drake Hogestyn) did his best to wrest Marlena free. He finally succeeded by this week.
