The Young and the Restless has a long history in telling socially relevant stories that both educate and entertain their viewers. Now, the show’s embarked on another important one with Sharon Case’s character of Sharon Newman.
Recently, Sharon discovered a lump on her breast and went in for an examination. Since then, Sharon – with significant other Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) by her side – has been processing the news and learning more about breast cancer and her specific case.
The show has partnered with the American Cancer Society and CBS Cares to help bring awareness of breast cancer to viewers. A public service announcement with Case is available by going to CBSCares and also watching below.
“The Young and the Restless has always tackled important social issues within the show’s rich storytelling,” said co-executive producer and head writer Josh Griffith, in a statement.
“From AIDS and alcoholism to drunk driving and domestic abuse, we’ve consistently tried to focus on the human condition in an open and honest manner. We’re proud to be joining with the American Cancer Society to deliver this important message about breast cancer awareness.”
The American Cancer Society is a global grassroots force of 1.5 million volunteers dedicated to saving lives, celebrating lives, and leading the fight for a world without cancer. From breakthrough research to free lodging near treatment, a 24/7/365 live helpline, free rides to treatment, and convening powerful activists to create awareness and impact, the Society is attacking cancer from every angle. As Sharon has continued to process the news that she is dealing with a life-threatening condition, she’s allowed help from her ex, Nick (Joshua Morrow), and their daughter, Faith (Alyvia Alyn Lind), has decided to leave boarding school and return home to be there for her mom. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
