Remember when you were little and would say your age in half-years? Jessica Collins, who played Avery Bailey Clark on The Young and the Restless, certainly does. She took the opportunity of her daughter’s half-birthday to have a celebration.
“Happy ‘4 and a Half’ Birthday little Jem,” Collins posted on her Instagram page in honor of her daughter Jemma’s halfway mark between being 4 and 5 years old. “Yep… TWO birthdays for all y’alls is how we’re gonna roll the rest of this crazy year! Pick whatever day you want! 🎈
“My little one asked so sweetly for this gorgeous Earl Grey Blueberry cake from @valerieconfctns,” Collins added. “Luckily, I have Valerie’s shop on speed dial at this point. #caketherapy 💕🌈❤️ #momlife #summer2020 #wearamask.”
Collins first came to the attention of soap fans in 1991 as Dinah Lee Mayberry on the ABC half-hour sudser Loving, which, ironically, aired opposite YR in many markets. After exiting Corinth, Collins came to Hollywood and stayed busy on such series as Nip/Tuck, Renegade, Star Trek: Voyager, Beverly Hills, 90210, and Dawson’s Creek.
The actress returned to soaps in 2011 as the sister of Phyllis (Michelle Stafford). Genoa City gained another lawyer when Avery proved to be a champion for those she felt were wrongly convicted. Avery was the ex-love of Dylan McAvoy (Steve Burton) and was torn between him and Dylan’s half-brother Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow).
Collins won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work as Avery in 2016, after she’d exited the series. Since leaving Genoa City, she’s appeared on 9-1-1, Grey’s Anatomy, and Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings.
As you can see in Collins’ Instagram post below, her daughter’s cake has five candles, but one is considerably shorter, indicating the ‘half’ birthday. Soap Hub wishes Jemma a very happy (half) birthday and many happy returns! The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
