The Young And The Restless Star Melissa Ordway Takes On Exciting New Role

Melissa Ordway plays quite the entrepreneur on The Young And The Restless. Her character, Abby Newman, is always taking on a new adventure. And now, Ordway is trying something new, too!

The actress recently shared with TV Insider that she, her husband Justin Gaston (ex-Ben, Days Of Our Lives), and some friends have launched a podcast to help parents talk about parenting issues, including adoption.

As fans of the actress know, she and Gaston adopted their daughter Olivia. The couple has friends whose son is also adopted and is Olivia’s best pal. That sparked the idea to create a podcast titled OneTribePodcast.

“The number one question I get on social media is about Olivia being adopted,” Ordway says. “Our whole mission is to help people on their journey. It’s not [just] about adoption.

“Everyone has a cool story about how they’ve come into this world. We want to do a podcast about everyone’s stories. If we can learn something [by doing this] how amazing would that be?”

Ordway hopes that the podcast will help educate folks on the topic of adoption. “We want to shine a light on how positive [adoption] is. There were people who loved [Olivia] so much they wanted her to have a better life. It’s all about love.

“We’ve all had those experiences where we’ve learned what’s not the right thing to say. We talk about different things so that we learn and grow. We have guests on our podcast including an adoption lawyer.”

One of the podcast’s guests was an adoption counselor, who gave input as to when it’s a good time to let a child know he/she has been adopted. Ordway says the counselor advises parents to be totally open. “If we don’t make a big deal about things then the conversations are way more comfortable.”
