Showing images of the actors playing characters on the opening credits of The Young and the Restless has been a staple of the show since day one. Now, a familiar face is a new addition to the program’s introduction.

Jordi Vilasuso Makes The Opening

Jordi Vilasuso, who debuted as Det. Rey Rosales in August of 2018, was recently added to the opening of YR. The move didn’t go unnoticed by Twitter handle Team_Shey, a fan account in support of Sharon (Sharon Case) and Rey. “EEEKS!! Congratulations to @JordiVilasuso on being added to the opening credits.”

The appreciative actor responded by retweeting the post, adding: “Look Ma’ I made it! 🙏❤️🙌” There’s more good news for everyone in Genoa City and fans of YR everywhere. The show has received a four-year pickup which will take the top-rated serial to its 50th (!) year!

YR was created by the late William J. Bell and his wife, Lee Phillip Bell. The show premiered on March 26, 1973. It debuted as a half-hour serial, telling the stories of the Foster and Brooks families living in Genoa City.

On February 4, 1980, YR, as many soaps had already done, became a one-hour serial. The story canvas over the years shifted away from the Foster and Brooks clans to one in which the Abbotts and Newmans took center stage.

Life in Genoa City

Recently, YR dipped into its past by revealing the character of Theo (heartthrob Tyler Johnson) is the grandson of Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) and Stuart Brooks (Robert Colbert). The YR theme has changed over the years. Sketches of the actors used to appear in the opening credits.

Eventually, live-action shots of the actors were used. For a while, YR did its opening credits in black and white. More recently, the show has gone back to using color shots of the actors. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
