Once a newcomer to Genoa City, Bryton James and his alter-ego Devon Hamilton are now show staples. He’s been a part of The Young And The Restless family for quite some time now and he’s got something to celebrate!
It’s been 15 (!) years since James joined the show. And that’s an amazing accomplishment!
The character of Devon came on when Victoria Rowell (ex-Dru) suggested to the show that it do a foster care storyline. (Rowell, herself, grew up on the foster care system). So, Neil (the late Kristoff St. John) and Dru ended up adopting Devon, bringing him into the Winters clan.
Over the years, Devon has emerged from troubled teen to billionaire businessman. It was revealed that his parents were Harmony (nee Yolanda), played by Debbi Morgan, and Tucker, played by Stephen Nichols, the son of the late Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper).
Devon inherited tons of money after Katherine passed away and the character’s personal life has been filled with sudsy drama. In addition to his family conflicts, Devon was temporarily deaf. In the romance department, he fell in love with Hilary (Mishael Morgan) who was married to Neil!
Devon and Hilary became a fan favorite duo and the couple re-married on her death bed following injuries suffered in a car wreck.
James won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Leading Actor In A Drama Series in 2007. He’s been nominated for a Daytime Emmy an impressive seven times!
With Neil gone and Dru presumed dead (no body was ever found) and Lily absent (her portrayer, Christel Khalil opted to go recurring with the show), James’ Devon represents the Winters clan on YR.
Soap Hub congratulates James on his 15th anniversary and wishes him many more years to come!
The Young And The Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
