Beth Maitland, beloved as Traci on The Young and the Restless, has shared on social media a deep, personal loss. Christopher Banninger, her ex-husband and the father of their daughter, Emelia, has died after suffering a heart attack on October 31.
The actress wrote on Facebook that Banninger had a massive heart attack at his home in Canyon Country and reports that neighbors valiantly performed CPR on him until emergency responders arrived.
“I was on the phone with them during the 45-minute fight to save him, but it was not to be,” Maitland shared. “He passed away with no pain and with dear friends holding his hand.”
Maitland added that while she and Banninger were recently divorced, “I have spent thirty-five years loving this man with every ounce of me and I am so sorry for the pain this loss brings to so many of you who loved him too.”
The Young and the Restless star concluded the post asking, “Lift us up in your prayers and thank you for your love of him as he lived his big, wild, and whirlwind life. Thank you. with my love, Beth.”
Banninger had been nominated for Daytime Emmys in 2011 and 2012 for Outstanding Achievement in Live and Direct to Tape Sound Mixing for a Drama Series for his work on All My Children, winning in 2012.
In addition to working on the audio team at General Hospital, Banninger’s other credits include The Odd Couple, Men At Work, Melissa and Joey, Brothers, and Happy Together. Banninger hailed from Cleburne, Texas and studied at Southwestern Adventist University.
Soap Hub sends sincere condolences to Beth Maitland and her and Banninger’s daughter, Emelia, at this very difficult time. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
