On The Young and the Restless, after battling what he insisted was the flu for days, Rey collapsed and ended up in the hospital. There, the diagnosis came back: Thallium poisoning. Who could have done it? We have our suspicions:
Adam (Mark Grossman) wants Sharon (Sharon Case). Sharon is married to Rey (Jordi Vilasuso). Ergo, it stands to reason that Adam has the best motive for poisoning Rey.
But that’s too obvious. (We don’t want a rerun of the Alyssa obviously shot Chance storyline, do we?)
Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) is furious that Adam wants Sharon. So Chelsea is setting up Sharon to make it look like Sharon is trying to kill Rey. Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) is helping her.
That’s slightly less obvious.
Some criminal that Rey once put away is seeking revenge.
Less obvious. Also less interesting.
We learned from the brilliant Vizzini, as played by Wallace Shawn, that we can use logic to figure out where poison is coming from. Thallium poisoning was very common in Australia in the 1950s (we’re serious, look it up). And since Australia is populated by criminals, the person trying to poison Rey is obviously Australian.
It’s Cane (Daniel Goddard). He’s doing it so that he can casually stroll back into town, identify what’s ailing Rey and play the hero.
Elementary, my dear, Genoa City.
And why were Thallium poisonings so common in Australia in the 1950s? It’s because it’s the active ingredient in most common rat poisons.
The obvious answer here is that Rey, in his attempt to show off what a good husband and stepfather he is and how Sharon and Faith (Alyvia Alyn Lind) couldn’t get by without him, decided he’d fix the carriage house’s rodent problem. And accidentally poisoned himself. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
