The Young and the Restless Spoilers Spec: Escalating the Abby v. Phyllis War

Before it went on hiatus, The Young and the Restless Spoilers were doing a stellar job passing the Bechdel Test, with Abby and Phyllis having scene after scene where they weren’t fighting over a man, but a hotel. Hey, we take our feminist victories where we can get them!

The Young and the Restless Spoilers Spec: Phase One

First, Abby (Melissa Ordway) “stole” The Grand Phoenix from Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) – at least that’s the way Phyllis saw it. Technically, Adam (Mark Grossman) stole the hotel out from under her, and Abby merely bought it from him. Then Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) got involved.

Phase Two

Phyllis found out a secret about Adam and Chance (Danny Boaz) and blackmailed Chelsea and Abby into signing The Grand Pheonix back over to Phyllis.

Phase Three

Then Abby dressed up as Phyllis and got the blackmail material out of Phyllis’s safety deposit box. Then she started building a competing hotel across the street.

Phyllis got construction stopped. Then Abby got construction restarted – at 5 AM, so Phyllis’s guests would start fleeing.

Phasers on Stun

So what comes next? Explosives in the foundation? Poison in the food? Fisticuffs in the lobby? Just how far will either of these women go to… do what exactly? We know they want to win, but win what? What’s at stake here? A hotel? Bragging rights?

We know it’s not about the money for Abby. She’s a Newman and an Abbott. She has more money than some small nations. And it’s not even exactly about the money for Phyllis, either. If it were, there are easier ways to get it. She says it’s about her pride. Her proof that she’s a survivor.
