The Young and the Restless: Soap Hub’s Daytime Week In Review

Everybody’s got an opinion…especially where their favorite daytime drama is concerned – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now I offer you a handy review and a cheeky critique, of The Young and the Restless week that was.

The Young and the Restless: The Week In Review

Why is Summer Newman (Hunter King) acting like a child? She’s the consummate professional who’s so rattled by an ambitious co-worker that she’s flying cross country to try and dig up some dirt on her. Seriously?

Then there’s Adam (Mark Grossman), another Newman who can’t act like a grown-up. He’s so self-centered that he’s now decided that Chelsea’s (Melissa Claire Egan) stroke is all about him. It’s karma biting HIM in the backside and the only way he can atone is to devote himself to caring for his fiance – because he’s such a good and giving person whom the world does not appreciate.

And don’t get us started on Victoria (Amelia Heinle). This is a woman who’s devolved from a brainy go-getter to a backbiting busybody desperate to ensure that her ex-husband doesn’t move on with another lady. She’s even manipulating their children to her own, selfish ends.

In fact, one of the few people acting age appropriately is Faith (Alyvia Alyn Lind), and that poor girl is currently incapable of making a good decision. Here’s hoping that Nick (Joshua Morrow) takes Phyllis’ (Michelle Stafford) warning about Jordan to heart because that girl is trouble with a capital T. And Phyllis should know.

And while we’re on the subject of acting appropriately, we’d also like to take the opportunity to disparage the recent, unamusing characterization of Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman). He was once a power-hungry, playboy who’s been reduced to ‘Uncle’ status with no discernable sex life nor purpose.

His recent pairing opposite Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) holds some promise, but I’m of the idea that story needs to head in a romantic direction vs. this whole mentor/mentee shtick.

Sally’s an ambitions scheme queen, and Jack is one hell of a catch when his last name and bank account are added to the equation. And Jack has a history of falling for the bad girls, as Jill (Jess Walton) and Phyllis can attest.

But Jack isn’t the only one with a penchant for bad girls. Devon (Bryton James) adored the “unpredictable, passionate, and intense” Hilary (Mishael Morgan) and now it appears he’s transferred those feelings to her twin sister, Amanda (Mishael Morgan).

And Amanda has really been proving, as of late, that she has just as much verve as Hilary ever did. Her decision to raise hell on the doorstep of the mother who abandoned her, and then refused a face-to-face, came right out of the Hilary Curtis playbook, and we can only say heaven help Naya (Ptosha Storey) if she doesn’t give Amanda the answers that she came searching for!

Further YR Musings

Oh, the stories that Jack could tell Sally. Like the one about the girl that he drove so insane that she pumped him full of lead. Or the stepmother he slept with AFTER she embroiled him in a sexual harassment scandal. And then there’s the surgically-altered criminal who took over his life. Good times, good times.

Anyone else buying Billy’s (Jason Thompson) ‘breakthrough’ where his and Adam’s rivalry is concerned? The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
