Everybody’s got an opinion…especially where their favorite daytime drama is concerned – and Soap Hub is no different. For one day we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of The Young and the Restless week that was. (The other four days featured The Second Impeachment Trial Of Donald J. Trump, which is now thankfully over so that soaps can return.)
“Oh Theo, you came and you gave without taking, and we need you more than two days, oh Theo.” All right, now that little bit of frivolity’s out of the way, let’s get down to business.
Theo (Tyler Johnson) did indeed arrive on the scene and he brought with him some potentially damaging information. Turns out, Kyle’s (Michael Mealor) a daddy – thanks to an ill-advised liaison with a Hamptons area housewife.
Now, it remains to be seen exactly what will arise from this plot twist. If Kyle has his way, the damage will be kept to a minimum and the secret will be out in the open in no time flat.
But this is a soap opera. And paternity pickles are never so cut and dry. Men with potential spawn don’t just rat themselves out to their wives or girlfriends – like Kyle seems so determined to do.
Instead, let’s hope that Theo and Sally (Courtney Hope) up the ante and invite and invite Kyle’s fancy lady and her mad, bad, and dangerous-to-know hubby to Genoa City. YR in general, and a powerhouse character like Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) in particular, could benefit from the influx of new family headed by a big bad.
And how do we know that the latter critique is true? Because Victor spent last week rustling up his brood – sans Adam (Mark Grossman) – and browbeating them into agreeing to a family dinner.
A family dinner that was spent listening to Abby (Melissa Ordway) go on and on about her plans to start a new family sans Chance (Donny Boaz), sans his sperm, and with a borrowed uterus. Victor got so bored with the spiel that he actually accepted a phone call just to get away from it. Luckily, he was reseated just in time to hear Abby give him all the praise for the journey she’s currently undertaking.
Fingers crossed that the person on the other end of that call was informing Vic that Ashland Locke, the media mogul that Kyle cuckolded is on his way to town.
* Was anybody else slightly taken aback by Abby’s claim that Mariah (Camryn Grimes) is someone that she loves and trusts? Guess she can’t remember the time when Mariah was stalking her and she had the redhead arrested and extradited back to a state where she had criminal charges pending, huh?
* Was there anything funnier than the look exchanged between Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) when Abby just casually mentioned that Chance was on assignment with the FBI and wouldn’t be around to go on the surrogacy journey with her?
* Okay, maybe the funniest moment of the week – make that episode – was Johnny forcing Billy (Jason Thompson) and Lily’s (Christel Khalil) hand and making them confess to their status as “boyfriend and girlfriend.” The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS.
