Everybody’s got an opinion…especially where their favorite daytime drama is concerned – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of The Young and the Restless week that was.
If there’s any truth to the saying, “You’re only as sick as your secrets,” then Genoa City better have a fleet of ambulances on standby. Devon (Bryton James) isn’t keeping a secret per say, but he also didn’t tell Amanda (Mishael Morgan) that he and Elena (Brytni Sarpy) slept together just days before the two of them decided to take things to the next level. Lies of omission are just as dangerous, so here’s hoping the truth will out sooner rather than later.
Adam (Mark Grossman) and Sharon (Sharon Chase) are sitting on one heck of a secret, and if ANYBODY were to ever find it out, they’d be in a whole heap of trouble…which means that their kiss is about to be outed. But what can they expect? They did indulge right out in the open, in the middle of an always busy – unless reserved for a private party – restaurant.
And then there’s Kyle (Michael Mealor). We pointed out last week that his outright admission of his status as a potential father wouldn’t hold the same dramatic weight as keeping the secret all to himself – and the soap gods heard us! Rather than tell Summer (Hunter King) everything, he left out a few pertinent details, which will certainly come back to bite him in the bottom in the near future. And we the audience, thank the writers for that!
* Which YR character had the worst Valentine’s Day? Was it Victoria (Amelia Heinle) whose attempt to upend whatever romantic plans Billy (Jason Thompson) and Lily (Christel Khalil) had was stopped cold by her own children who took the time to make “Daddy’s best girlfriend” a card and by Billy intimating he knows she’s against him moving on with his life?
Or maybe it was Amanda, who had to sit and listen to Devon go on and on about Abby (Melissa Ordway) and Chance’s (Donny Boaz) surrogacy issues and how he wishes he could help in some way. (Oh, Devon.)
How about poor Nate who not only had to work on the holiday but who was also present for Elena’s insistence to Devon that the two of them would not be spending the day together. That just seemed cold.
At least Sharon got a homemade card complete with a heartfelt message and Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) got to indulge in sexy time because otherwise, the most romantic day of the year would have been a big ole bust across the board.
* Aside from the few chuckles elicited from all those inside jokes, what exactly did Dollar Bill Spencer’s visit accomplish? He didn’t out Sally (Courtney Hope) to her employers. Heck, he didn’t even issue the schemer much of a threat other than don’t come back to L.A. We would have loved to have seen more. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS.
