The Young and the Restless recaps for June 28 – July 2, 2021, feature Summer Newman breaking Kyle Abbott’s heart – as well as her own – and Ben “Stitch” Rayburn acting all kinds of shady.
While Summer (Hunter King) bid her loved ones personal adieus, Kyle (Michael Mealor) searched high and low for her. Just when he feared his efforts were all for naught, he caught up with her at The Grand Phoenix.
Kyle begged and pleaded with Summer not to give up on their love, but she tearfully insisted that, in time, they’ll get over each other. She then offered him one final kiss and handed back her engagement ring.
Hours later, while keeping company with Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner), Kyle decides that he will be able to move on from Summer.
Stitch (Sean Carrigan) surprised Abby Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) with a home visit and a present for the baby. He revealed to her, Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes), and Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) that his son’s condition has severely declined; the group offers their deepest sympathies; then details are shared about the unconventional family that they’ve formed.
Stitch is next caught hanging out at Crimson Lights by Mariah. She questioned his life back in Iowa City, but Stitch provided only elusive answers. Stitch then reunited with Victor (Eric Braeden) and Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott). Stitch eventually made his way back to the Chancellor manse, where he spied on an unaware Mariah.
News of Ashland Locke’s (Richard Burgi) poor health is leaked to a gossip site, and while he publicly denies the story’s veracity to the likes of Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson), Ashland privately confronts Tara and accuses her of being the one who spilled the beans.
After much prodding from both her parents, Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) finally took Nikki into her confidence, and admitted that a) Ashland Locke is indeed dying of lung cancer, and b) they are in the midst of negotiating a deal that will result in a merger of their two companies. Nikki worries that if Victor gets wind of any of these facts, then he’ll instigate a hostile takeover all his own.
Ashland extended yet another invitation to Victoria…this time, he wants to take her to Los Angeles. She happily accepts that generous offer – but she declines Ashland’s request to spend the night with him in his hotel room.
Y&R Recaps: Fault Lines
Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) learned, much to her chagrin, that a jailed Naya (Ptosha Storey) has refused her request for a sit-down. When she subsequently comes face-to-face with Sutton Ames (Jack Landron), Amanda unloads on him and demands to know exactly what he did to convince her mother to take the rap for a crime he committed.
Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) was stunned to hear from Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman) that Summer recommended her for her old job at JCV. Lauren offered her the position – on a strictly trial basis.
Sally shared her good fortune with Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), then invited him out for a drink. Despite Phyllis Summers’s (Michelle Stafford) stringent objection, Jack took her up on the offer. They enjoy each other’s company, and Jack agrees to make the get-togethers a recurring event.
