The Young and the Restless recap for June 15-19, 2020 features a dip into the soap’s archives and a look back at some of its most romantic weddings.
Last week, it was all about romance. And this week that theme continued with the added bonus of seeing (supposedly) star-crossed lovers exchange wedding vows and rings.
Christine (Lauralee Bell) was absolutely sure that she had found her soulmate in Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian). She’d been crazy about him since she was a teenager. Heck, the two practically grew up together. And now their about to embark on their “forever.”
Spoiler alert: The marriage only lasted a few years and Christine finds a new “forever person” in the form of Paul Williams (Doug Davidson). And trust us, their love story was far from picture-perfect.
Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon (Sharon Case) were never ones for pomp and circumstance – the Arabian Nights themed outing notwithstanding. So when they decided to pledge their troths, the couple decided to do so during an ordinary service held inside a very ordinary country chapel. It didn’t appeal to the mother of the groom in the slightest. But Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) managed to muddle through.
There are just some marriages that are doomed from the onset. A pretty good indication of such a union is one where the bride spends the early hours of the day fantasizing about her brother-in-law and busying herself with duties at the hospital.
We’d ask Olivia (Tonya Lee Williams) her reason for going through with her farce of a marriage to Malcolm (Shemar Moore), but we’ve seen what he looks like so the girl gets a pass. It’s just too bad that little Nate had to wind up suffering the loss of yet another father.
Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) and Nick never had the sanest of courtships. In fact, their love story began thanks to a seedy affair in the aftermath of Cassie’s (Camryn Grimes) death.
So, it probably comes as no surprise that their subsequent wedding wasn’t the normal, staid, Genoa City event. Instead, they married in a bar, surrounded by strangers, and celebrated by a taking a whirl while astride a mechanical bull.
There’s clearly a theme developing where a Niktor wedding is concerned. The first time Nikki and Victor said, “I do,” Eve Howard (Margaret Mason) was trying to off the bride. The second time they did so the bride was knocking on death’s door. (The third time was actually quite nice and without incident – hey, there’s a first time for everything.)
But during attempt number four, the bride and groom were stalked by a hired assassin…a hired assassin who wasn’t exactly stable nor good at taking direction. What was supposed to be a quick and (presumably) painless death via exploding ranch devolved into a hostage crisis! The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS.
