The Young and the Restless recap for Monday, June 22 goes back to almost exactly 36 (!!) years ago, with a June 27, 1984 episode that won Beth Maitland (Traci) YR’s first acting Emmy!

In this tour de force, Traci tries to commit suicide, Victor’s mom plays him, and Lauren and Gina go girl fighting!

The Young and the Restless Recap Highlights

In literally Traci’s first scene on The Young and the Restless, she was feeling sorry for herself, lamenting how beautiful her big sister, Ashley (Eileen Davidson), is, and how frumpy Traci is. She then felt sorry for herself when Danny (Michael Damian) preferred to sing rock songs with Lauren (Tracey Bregman) instead of Traci.

You’d think an older, dashing college professor wanting to have sex with her would have helped Traci’s self-esteem. Nope. Catching the cad in bed with another co-ed drove a pregnant Traci straight to sticking her head in the over – literally.

Luckily, 1984 was peak Cricket (Lauralee Bell) to the rescue era, and the photographer’s assistant turned model found Traci just in time! Cricket called Danny to come over, and, after listening to Traci’s tale of woe, Danny proposed a solution. And we do mean – proposed.

Save the Drama For Your Mama

Victor (Eric Braeden) is just furious that Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Kay (Jeanne Cooper) betrayed him by being nice to his estranged mother, Cora (Dorothy Malone). How dare they! Sensing that her snarly son wants nothing to do with her, Cora lies and says Victor is right, she was only after his money. Victor is always right. Later, Cora confides in Kay that she lied, but Victor’s happiness is more important than anything.

Bad Name

Not knowing that he’s proposing marriage to Traci, Gina (Patty Weaver) and Lauren (Tracey Bregman) wait for Danny to come so they can watch the final cut of his video. They snark pettily and set the cause of sisterhood back many decades. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
