The Young and the Restless recap for Monday, July 19 highlights Phyllis Summers becoming completely unhinged over what she says is love for her daughter, while Victor Newman sets a trap for Sutton Ames, and Ashland Locke and Billy Abbott mark their territory.
No one has ever accused Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) of being sane. Remember when she became so obsessed with Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian) that she planted dead sea life in the bed of Danny’s ex-wife, Christine Blair (Lauralee Bell), and her new husband, Paul Williams (Doug Davidson)? It made sense to Phyllis at the time.
Now, it’s obvious that Phyllis misses her batshit crazy days. Because she is using the excuse of Summer Newman (Hunter King) leaving town to get away from ex-fiancé Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and his newfound son, by spiraling through a series of crazy faces meant to somehow bully Kyle’s baby-mama, Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner), into…something. Phyllis is sure she’ll be successful. We’re not even sure what she thinks she’s trying to achieve.
Meanwhile, Phyllis’s ex, Billy (Jason Thompson) is confronting Tara’s ex, Ashland (Richard Burgi), over his other ex, Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle). The dude is on death’s door.
Why does he want to put Victoria through that? Billy, like Phyllis, pretends this is all about his kids. But we know it’s really about whatever is going on in his head. And it has to do with his not liking his ex’s need to make any new friends. Later, Ashland doesn’t like what his own ex is up to, as Tara files for sole custody of Harrison.
Victor (Eric Braeden) tells Sutton (Jack Landron) he has a letter from Richard claiming Sutton threatened him over looking for his long-lost daughter. Sutton isn’t the usual Victor stooge. He isn’t buying it. Victor offers to sell him the letter, in any case.
