The Young and the Restless recap for Friday, June 26, 2020, features the close to a week Daytime Emmy winners with an episode from the late 1990s when Cassie told a judge what she wanted for her future – and Camryn Grimes walked away with the Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actress.
(She accepted it in full Anna Paquin Oscar mode, hyperventilating, and squeaking out, “I don’t think I can talk,” while presenter Martha Byrne, a former Younger Actress winner herself, whispered for her to just breathe.)
Also in this episode, Ashley cuts short her honeymoon, Neil cuts short Jill’s self-destructive habits, and Diane cuts short Victor’s pomposity.
It’s the custody battle that never should have been. It would have been one thing if Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon (Sharon Case) were trying to take Cassie from a loving and devoted adoptive family. But Cassie’s adoptive mother, Alice, abandoned her, and the grandmother who’d been raising her knew Cassie was better off with the Newmans.
But Alice dug her heels in, and they went to court. The judge was about to make her decision when Cassie spoke up and talked about her wonderful Mommy and Daddy. Just like the Emmy voters, the judge was swayed and turned Cassie over to her parents for good.
Ashley (Eileen Davidson) married her former stepson in law, Cole (J. Eddie Peck) – once believed to be her ex-husband’s son, but was more focused on the office. She put a pause on their honeymoon in order to work.
Neil (Kristoff St. John) caught Jill (Jess Walton) drinking on the job and gave her a stern talking to! And thus Jill’s alcoholism was nipped in the bud.
And Diane (Alex Donnolly) didn’t want to hear what Victor (Eric Braeden) had to say about anything, turning to her fiance Jack (Peter Bergman), instead. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
