The Young and the Restless viewers thought they knew Chelsea. She was a self-serving con-artist always ready to play an angle and switch sides at a moment’s notice when looking out for number one.

The Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) on our screens now… uhm… who is that? We are not sure we recognize her at all.

This Chelsea has no interests of her own. She gave up her hotel in order to protect Adam (Mark Grossman). When she isn’t telling Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) and Nick (Joshua Morrow) how wonderful Adam is, she’s telling Adam how wonderful he is.
If Adam has so much as a moment of doubt about how maybe blackmailing your Daddy isn’t loving you isn’t optimal, and maybe he is less than a stellar role model for Connor (Judah Mackey), Chelsea is quick to rush in and reassure him of his perfection. This isn’t Chelsea. This is Stepford Chelsea.
A Different Point Of View
Or are we totally missing the obvious? Chelsea knows how to play the long game. Or should we call it the long con?

Chelsea kissing up to Adam like he is the only thing she cares about could all just be a way to make sure she inherits all his money and worldly possessions… when Adam is thrown in jail for blackmailing his Daddy.
Or maybe she plans to out both him and Chance (Donny Boaz) for the murder they covered up in Las Vegas… that Phyllis has helpfully let her know about it. That seems more on-brand for Chelsea.
Past Performance
Chelsea kept money in a hollow wall in case she needed to leave Nick and go on the run. She got a suitcase full of cash from her former husband. Isn’t it likely she’s planning a similar exit strategy for when Adam inevitably screws up… again?
