Since she first showed up on The Young and the Restless in the early 1990s, Sharon has driven serious story. (Once they finally settled on an actress, that is – Sharon Case was actually the third to play her — guess having the same first name helped!)
She’s romanced Nicholas (Joshua Morrow), Jack (Peter Bergman), Adam (Mark Grossman), and now Rey (Jordi Vilasuso). She’s given birth to Noah and Faith (Alyvia Alyn Lind), admitted to having given Cassie up for adoption, and found out Mariah (Camryn Grimes) was her lost daughter’s even longer long lost twin! There was kidnapping, some psychological issues, and an affair or two.
But, in spite of all that, it seems like Sharon has been edging towards the back burner lately. Should she be front and center? Where almost 16,000 stand on that issue:
For 61% of you, Sharon’s potential breast cancer is good news! If she has a terrible disease, she’ll have to have a big story! Right? Right? It’s not like Dina’s (Marla Adams) mental incapacity has mostly happened off-screen.
Or Victor’s (Eric Braeden) mystery illness was a plot point that was swept aside once it was no longer needed. And, hey, did Stitch’s kid ever get his tumor removed?
YR is not exactly a trendsetter at doing justice to social issue health stories. Sharon’s illness should put her out front where she belongs. But what if it’s only a tool to reunite her and Nick, or break up her and Rey, or… get rid of her for good?
We’ve had enough Sharon, a smaller 39% sigh. Seriously, what else can happen to her? She’s been through the wringer, and you’ve seen all of her sad facial expressions. Let someone else suffer for a while. Sharon can keep serving coffee — happily. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
