Does it sometimes feel like the fan term Woobie was created specifically for Adam on The Young and the Restless? At least, he always thinks so. Nothing is ever his fault, he is always the victim of others, and the universe is clearly conspiring against him. Little Connor has picked up his daddy’s tendencies in that respect.
Adam (Mark Grossman) is clearly his own worst enemy. But do fans feel sorry for the guy, or think he’s reaping what he’s sown? Over 4,000 viewers got together to render a verdict:
You Made Your Bed, Now Lie In It
Almost 60% of you believe Adam brings everything upon himself, then whines about it. Yeah, Victor (Eric Braeden) is a terrible dad. But you didn’t have to engage with him. You could have just walked away. And, boo-hoo, Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) doesn’t want to play house with you and Connor. Maybe you shouldn’t have tried to frame her for killing her husband?
Sister Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and brother Nicholas (Joshua Morrow) don’t feel like sharing with you? Yeah, they’re still a little sore about that whole tried to take Christian away from Nick and killed Vicky’s stepdaughter deals. In other words… you started it. Now you have to deal with it.
Second Chances For Adam
A more generous 40% of The Young and the Restless fans do see Adam as somewhat of a victim. He grew up not knowing his real father — though many would say that was a feature, not a bug. He lost his beloved stepdad and his mom, and then he did get shot and lose his memory. That’s gotta hurt.
Plus, he truly doesn’t know how to connect with people. He honestly thought he was doing right by Connor when he abandoned him. Adam needs understanding and mentoring, not scorn and banishment. Pet the Woobie, everyone! The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
