When we’ve looked at images on the news and social media over the past week, we’ve seen how many of America’s young adult generation is in the streets making their voices heard about injustices they see. The Young and the Restless star Tristan Lake Leabu has expressed his thoughts on current events on social media and his words are striking.

Tristan Lake Leabu Speaks Out

The talented young actor and musician did what many did on Tuesday and posted an image of a black box to Instagram in honor of the Black Lives Matter movement and put his thoughts next to the box. (Warning: There is what some may consider harsh language below, but these are Leabu’s words, so Soap Hub opted to not edit them out.)

“We Are One. There is but one race, the human race, and I will not stand for the mistreatment of any group of people based on prejudice. To be human is to be nuanced. Yes, there are good police officers, but that doesn’t matter right now. What matters is how we have accepted the perpetuation and perpetration of systems that condone and enact heinous crimes against people of color.

“Black lives matter, despite the actions of our police force. Despite the actions of our government. Despite the fact that our laws have cornered a large portion of black Americans into the lowest socioeconomic class. Despite the fact that because of those circumstances, the people subjected to that treatment are subsequently suffering from many health issues. Despite the fact that they have been the number one hit community in the American COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the mass incarceration of African American males; the neo-slavery that we have collectively deemed A-OK.

“Despite the fact that a young African American child has to live their life in fear of being accused of a crime they never committed and killed by a police officer. Despite the blatant treatment as a second class citizen, Black. Lives. Matter. Period. Because of the society that we have cultivated, they matter all the more. This has to stop. Let’s all experience the end of this mistreatment in our lifetimes,” Tristan Lake Leabu continued.

“Let’s be the generation to say that we were the ones to acknowledge the problem and put our fucking foot down. Let’s rise up and show this racist, hate-filled, pieces of shit that love will always overcome, and they were wrong. For far too long, they were wrong. It’s not too late to learn. It’s never too late to love. Let’s stand up and make a change. Black Lives Matter. I love you all.”

While it’s been a few months since we have seen Reed in GC, it’s very nice to see such insightful words from the actor who plays him. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
