The Young and the Restless News Update: Greg Rikaart Shows His Pride

June is Pride Month, a time where members of the LGBTQ community show they are not afraid of being who they are and celebrate their own diversity, as well as diversity within the world. The Young and the Restless star Greg Rikaart joins in this movement as a proud gay man and explains what Pride means to him.

A Word From Greg Rikaart

In a CBS social media video, Rikarrt sits in his home and celebrates pride during this pandemic that put a halt to the many parades and in-person celebrations that usually mark June and the LGBTQ movement.

CBS is joining the virtual pride parade, tweeting the following: “Pride means different things to different people so, for #PrideMonth, we asked @YandR_CBS’ @gregrikaart what Pride means to him. #YR #CBSPride.”

Listen to what Rikaart, who has also played a gay character, Leo, on Days of Our Lives off and on since 2018, has to say.

Earlier this year, Rikaart contracted COVID-19 and detailed his difficulties getting a test, as well as how hard it was for him to stay isolated and not be with his son, Milo, and husband, Robert. Thankfully, he has since recovered and is doing well.

The Young and the Restless History

YR made its debut in 1973 and introduced more sexual undertones and younger characters to daytime soap operas. It has outlasted other soaps to become a mainstay for many households. Needless to say, four decades of storylines have kept viewers locked in and wanting more.

From Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) family machinations to Paul Williams’ (Doug Davidson) heroism to the adorable love story of Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Lola (Sasha Calle), YR knows how to entertain and keep fans coming back for more. Sadly, times are shifting and daytime soap operas are shrinking.

Bringing the Drama

It is one of only four remaining soap operas currently on the air. The other three daytime dramas include General Hospital (GH), Days of our Lives (DAYS), and The Bold and the Beautiful (BB). YR airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for air times.
