The Young and the Restless News Update: Doug Davidson On The Story That Changed It All

As veteran fans of The Young and the Restless may recall, the George Rawlins murder mystery was one of the show’s most successful. A dime crime novel come to life, Paul (Doug Davidson) fought for his freedom after his elderly, wealthy friend George Rawlins (Jonathan Farwell) was murdered, and signs pointed to his wife Sandy — aka Paul’s love Cassandra (Nina Arvesen) — as a potential suspect.

Doug Davidson Looks Back

Davidson has taken advantage of being home and self-quarantining to reflect on the storyline, written by late YR head writer and senior executive producer William J. Bell, which helped propel the show to the top spot in the ratings. In part five of a series, the actor reflected on a part of the story in which Paul faked his own death to stop the trial, which surely would have resulted in a guilty verdict.

“The Stories Behind The Stories – Episode 5 – Paul and Cassandra: Part 5,” Davidson posted. “All made possible by the amazing talents of @joymathys, @calyssadavidson and Gareth Murphy!”

The Daytime Emmy-winning actor recalled Paul’s father Carl (Brett Hadley) getting involved in his son’s coverup and lying that Paul had killed himself presumably because he felt guilty over killing George. Devasted, Paul’s deeply religious mother, Mary (Carolyn Conwell) couldn’t believe that her son was gone and that Carl thought that their boy was a killer.

Davidson’s retrospect is well-produced, combining the actor recalling moments from the story in real-time and classic clips being used to help illustrate his points. (Hey, CBS may we please get five episodes of this classic storyline in a week’s worth of reruns?)

The next installment will focus on the show going on remote to Bermuda where Cassandra and her lover Adrian Hunter (Mark Derwin) enjoy the sun and surf, believing that Paul is gone.

While sometimes going on remote means the climax of a storyline, the trip to Bermuda shows that the real highlights are yet to come! Check out Davidson’s post below. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
