There are similarities between the soap opera and comic book worlds. Both feature long-running characters and serialized storytelling. Count Bryton James of The Young and the Restless as one of the many performers who has ties to both worlds.

James, an Emmy-winner for his role as Devon Hamilton on YR, has also voiced the character of Cyborg (AKA Victor Stone) on the animated series Super Friends, which aired in 2015. The actor recently posted a photo of the show on his Instagram to remind viewers of this fact.

The seven-episode series can be found on DVD. The first Super Friends series debuted back in 1973 and featured the characters of Superman, Batman and Robin, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and three junior Super Friends Wendy, Marvin, and Wonder Dog. The original Super Friends ran from 1973 to 1985.

There have been plenty of other daytime stars who’ve also played superheroes. Kin Shriner (Scotty, General Hospital) has voiced the character of Green Arrow on Justice League Unlimited. The late Christopher Reeve, who played Superman in four feature films, starting with Superman in 1978, started out in soaps on Love of Life as Ben Harper. Justin Hartley, formerly Adam on The Young and the Restless, became Oliver Queen AKA Green Arrow on Smallville.

Also, Kevin Conroy, who played Jerry on Another World, went on to voice the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne on Batman: The Animated Series. Arleen Sorkin (ex-Calliope, Days of our Lives) voiced Harley Quinn. Bob Hastings, who ran the Port Charles Police Department on General Hospital (until he was exposed as bad guy Mr. Big), voiced Commissioner Gordon.

Cyborg isn’t the only animated role for Bryton James. He voiced the character of Virgil Hawkins/Static on Young Justice from 2013 to 2019. On that series, Jesse McCartney (ex-J.R., All My Children) voiced the characters of Dick Grayson AKA Robin, AKA Nightwing. Don’t miss next week’s classic episodes of YR, which focus on the Winters clan, the family that adopted Devon. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS.
