Shemar Moore fans know that the actor who played Malcolm on The Young and the Restless was deeply devoted to his mother, Marilyn, who passed away earlier this year. On the anniversary of Marilyn’s birth, Moore, who now stars as Hondo Harrelson on S.W.A.T., took to social media to pay tribute to his late parent.
“Happy Heavenly Birthday Momma Marilyn…” Moore posted on Instagram, “77 today… I Love You… You affected so many lives with your Brilliant Light, mind, Love, Sass, heart, and keeping it cute and elegant all day everyday. I know you up there puff puff passing and sipping that wine…. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉💕💕💕💕🕊🕊🕊.”
Moore’s pals, including TV nephew Bryton James (Devon) and fellow lawman on S.W.A.T., Kenneth Johnson (Officer Dominique Luca), offered their support to the actor on this hard day. The former YR star’s followers recall that Marilyn passed away earlier this year, on February 8th, due to multiple sclerosis and a heart condition at the age of 76.
“I’m hurting real bad,” Moore shared in an Instagram photo when letting his followers know that his mom had died. “I’ve been offline for some weeks now. I’ve had to keep a secret out of respect to my mom. I miss her more than I ever thought possible and I don’t know how to do this life without her, but I get my STRENGTH from her and I will be OK because of HER.”
Shemar Moore got his big break when The Young and the Restless creator William J. Bell took a chance on the model-turned-actor in 1994, casting him as Malcolm Winters, half-brother of Neil (the late Kristoff St. John). Moore won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 1998, winning over nominees and castmates St. John and Christian Jules Le Blanc (Michael).
Moore departed YR in 2001. He was cast as Derek Morgan in the series Criminal Minds in 2005. In 2017, he was tapped to headline the cast of S.W.A.T. Last year, Moore reprised Malcolm for a solemn occasion when YR wrote the death of Neil following St. John’s real-life passing. Soap Hub joins Moore in wishing Marilyn a happy heavenly birthday. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
